This time it'll be messy,

So, we hear a bunch of overpaid guys on the CANAL+ France Directors Board decided they had enough with SECA 2 Mediaguard system and it is time ta shake the market again -and replace all the cards in the market; millions and millions of cards and possibly boxes and CAMS.

For those who had to move from TPS to CANAL due to the merger last year it was messy and costly, now 2008 they decided for no apparent reason to ditch the usually reliable SECA2 Cards for a new VIACCESS system

The switchover is due to start from March, new replacement cards will be sent by post to every subscriber

For over 3 years CANAL SECA 2 never been emulated in a damaging scale as with TPS, DIGITAL+, PREM...

Very few people know about this so far, and why the move from CANAL -but they will get a letter or 2 from C+ with a new technical excuse

We suspect; CANAL is having some hard-time dealing with broadcast conflict claims from other providers and justifying the huge EU and Worldwide subscriptions base is not easy; so recently they tightened the subscription procedure and now they think
shaking-up the system may get rid of many registration and black-market (official) cards that are sold for cash but no records or contract copies

All TotalSat CANAL subscribers will get their replacement cards as soon as we get them,

Update:

CANAL is moving to VIACCESS 3, NOT SECA 3 (Edited 15/05/2008: Correction)
Technically, the new card should work on all VIACCESS 2 Cams, PowerCAM Pro, HUMAX boxes and all original CANAL boxes,

But all Multi-Crypt boxes, like Technomate, Electron, Fortecstar, BlueStar... May require a firmware update.

This change is very similar to the recent Al Jazeera Sport move from Viaccess 2 to Viaccess 3 and the new TNT SAT Cards on Via 3,

New Al Jazeera Sport Cards and TNTSAT cards are both on Viaccess 3 , yet they both work fine with Viaccess 2 MPEG-4 Cams

WE ESTIMATE, NEW CANAL REPLACEMENT CARDS WILL BE SENT TO EXISTING SUBSCRIBERS FROM 15/03/2008
NEW CUSTOMERS AND NEW CANAL SUBSCRIBERS WILL NOT RECEIVE THEIR CARDS UNTIL AFTER 20/03/2008

YOU CAN STILL PLACE AN ORDER WITH TOTALSAT FOR A CARD TO JOIN THE WAITING LIST, BUT YOU WON'T BE RECEIVING A CARD OR INSTALLATION (IF INCLUDED) UNTIL AFTER THE ABOVE DATES

AS OF TODAY 05/06/2008 ABOUT 80% OF CANAL CUSTOMERS ALL OVER EUROPE -STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED REPLACEMENT CARDS, AND DESPITE THIS - MOST CURRENT CARDS HAVE STOPPED WORKING.

- TOTALSAT CUSTOMERS, WHO DID NOT SUPPLY A FRENCH ADDRESS FOR WILL GET REPLACEMENT CARDS AS SOON AS WE RECEIVE THEM

- TOTALSAT CUSTOMERS, WHO SUPPLIED A FRENCH ADDRESS- WILL GET REPLACEMENT CARDS SENT TO THE SUPPLIED ADDRESS IN FRANCE

UPDATE 12/06/2008

Dear TotalSat Customers and non TotalSat CANAL Victims,

We are being flooded by emails and calls daily, we are not CANAL+ we try to help everyone but you have to be know that your current situation is caused by the CANAL GROUP and we are only a reseller of cards, your actual contract is with CANAL+.

TotalSat customers:

We are working on this issue and enquiring about the missing cards every week -
To get your new card faster please contact us here (include your card number) we will email your contract details and how to contact CANAL directly and request a replacemenet card. Updated: 13/06/2008

Non TotalSat customers:

Please contact your dealer, we CANNOT help you in any way -we don't have your contract details, we cannot get you a replacement card, CANAL only sends replacement cards to the registered contract addresses.


We are still receiving very few cards at random and we will let you know when your we have your card.

We are pulling CANAL cards from sale until this situation is sorted and stocks restored, and we recommend people to stay away from CANAL new cards and renewals until this problem is over.

An alternative solution to CANAL that will suit most people is the French TNTSAT sub, compatible with most CANAL system as plug and play, with no need for engineer, (for clients with integrated systems, crestron, amx, cedia installations you will need an engineer to retune the system (e.g: pronto))
