Default Subtitles on French freeview satellite

I'm about to upgrade my French freeview satellite system, which I have had for about five years.

I'd like to be able to receive French subtitling. Is this now standard on freeview satellite systems?

I did look at a previous thread on this subject but it was a few years old.

Thanks.

Hi dromedary,
Not sure if this helps, but I receive TNTSat via a visiosat TVS7500 which is around 2 years old, SD only, I bought this as I wanted subtitles.

My experiences are these; From memory just over half of the 20 channels have subtitles, but not all programmes have them. M8 requires these to be viewed using the text button then selecting 888 (I have found these subtitles to be delayed slightly sometimes) but the other channels use a separate system using the subtitles button on the remote, I have found most to be very good with the exception of news and other live programmes where the long delay between subtitles to spoken word makes them pretty much useless.

Canalsat channels (when free to air) are weird as they display a single line of subtitles then move it up a line an type a second line of text. utterly useless. I thought this may be a TV issue but I have recently bought a new TV, a top of the range Sony which had TNT stamped on the box but the problem persists, the only thing I have not changed is the satellite box to another manufacturer.

I have changed it for another Visiosat 7500. Hopefully somebody else will be able to give you their experiences on these channels using a different box. I have also managed to to pick up subtitles using the text option on one of the TV5 channels that appear in the the list of global stations available. I have found on occasions that I have to switch the box off and on again to get subtitles to work, I think this is when I have been using subtitles via text and 888 on TV5, then want to use subtitles on a channel which uses the dedicated button the remote, but cannot be sure on that.

Things may be different on the hd boxes.

I do not know about FRANsat

Regards
Doug
