Default French Freesat with UK Freesat HD?

Hi there

I'm looking to receive the French Freesat channels: TF1, France2-6, M6 & Arte, and also would like UK Freesat including BBC HD and ITV HD.

Firstly, to receive from Astra1 and Astra2, are 2x 45cm dishes best or 1x 60cm dish with 2x or dual LNBs? Am thinking of rain scatter etc.

Secondly, must I buy both a Humax HD Freesat box and a French Freesat box, or can the Humax display French Freesat channels? Surely a viewing card isn't needed for French Freesat?

I have no sat equipment at present, use a Tosh 32LV665 - a 1080p TV, and am inside the M25. I don't want any subscription packages and don't need subtitles on French channels.

Cheers for your help - nice site!

It is possible to have both Astra 1 and Astra 2 on same dish in using 65cm VISIOSAT BISAT or the recommended way to do it is to have 2 separate 45cm dishes.

The single box solution is possible only if you are happy to pay a yearly subscription fee for the French channels at around £10 per month for as long as you want the French tv this is then is called Bis TV and works with HUMAX HD boxes.

Otherwise to have the real deal French Freesat and UK Freesat you will need separate boxes because they both use different encryption types.

Ok - going with your French TNTSAT solution, what outputs are available on the sat. receiver: just SCART, or S-video, or composite, or HDMI?

Thanks again...

First off, thanks for your TNTsat receiver - I'm getting great quality images off a 50cm mesh dish just inside the M25; better than cable really.

The blurb mentions German and Spanish programs, bu the receiver hasn't found them in Autotune. Do I have to set something or look on another of the Astra 2 group?

Cheers again.

By default TNT SAT boxes will only tune French channels - to tune the extra German and Spanish channels you have to run a global search, to do that:

HOW TO, FOR TNT SAT VISIOSAT BOXES:
  1. Press the MENU button on your remote control
  2. Go down to INSTALLATION, Press OK
  3. Go down to RECHERCHE GLOBALE / GLOBAL SEARCH Press OK
  4. Now press the RED button on your remote (the EPG button)
  5. Now wait while it is tuning, then exit the menu
  6. Check your new channels, they should be at the end of the list

HOW TO, FOR TNT SAT STRONG BOXES:

  1. Press the MENU button on your remote control
  2. Go down to INSTALLATION, Press OK
  3. Go to CHANNELS SETUP / REGLAGE DES CHAINES Press OK
  4. Now press the RED button on your remote (AUTO SCAN MODE)
  5. Now wait while it is tuning, then exit the menu
  6. Check your new channels, they should be at the end of the list
