Hi again,
still confused over future of TF1 and M6...
However, we currently have an old analogue Sky box, receiving french terrestrial tele (TF1, 2, 3, arte and M6) from our old Sky satellite dish, which switches through a Scart switcher to our big, old TV (which is also used for our digital NTL cable TV).
We would like to buy a Twin Freeview Tuner + Hard Drive (Humax PVR-9200T) and a new LCD TV, but are worried that the analogue signal from the French dish won't play in colour on the LCD TV.
We want to keep TF1 and M6 so we know that we have to stay analogue (we are NOT forking out wads of cash for French Digital) but don't want to upgrade to Freeview/LCD for the UK television in case it won't work alongside the French analogue TV.
Can anyone advise us on this, please?

Secondly, can I get the French TNT package (and therefore the usual 1,2,3,5,6 channels) with a digital receiver such as the Electron? Will I opnly need to pay a one-off fee to receive the TNT package?
If so, then the old French analogue can be binned and the SECAM issue with it...

Some clarification, please!

many thanks in advance.

best solution for your case, is to buy a SECAM compatible LCD Screen like: Samsun, Sony or Philips avoid Panasonic, Bush, Matsui, Toshiba and any cheap Argos style brands.
You can then continue watching French TV as usual
as fo the TNT, if you the actual French Digital Terrestriall signal; you can't watch it from the UK because it is not Satellite broadcast. But if you mean the French Digital Free to Air service aka the Atlantic Bird Broadcast you can only watch it with a satellite receiver like the electron and you only get:
France2, France3, France4, France5, LCp and arte but you won't get no TF1 and no M6

Excellent help, many thanks.

Finally, what advantages (if any) are there with the Digital Free-to Air service over my current analogue service (which has ALL the regular terrestrial )channels?

As far as I can see, mt best bet is to buy a decent LCD TV (as you recommend), the Humax Frreview box for UK Freeview and keep my analogue box for French TV until all the channels go digital?

Will I be able to switch between input sources easily on the new LCD tvs?

Thanks again,

Conor Davies

Advantages of digital over the analogue system you have are:

1/ Better image quality
2/ France 4 channel only on digital
3/ France 5 all day broadcast (on analogue; day-time only)
4/ Arte on digital also works all day (on analogue; nights only)
5/ Extra channel LCP
6/ no worries about SECAM/PAL issues

Advantages of the analogue system (in your case):

1/ TF1 channel, free to watch on analogue
2/ M6 channel, free to watch on analogue
3/ you dont have to upgrade
