I read an article in a recent issue of Télé 7 Jours about the merger of TPS and Canal Satellite, and it appears that it is now going to start having an effect on the subscriber.

It indicates that as of 21st March, the TPS brand name is no longer being marketed, and Canal Sat will become the sole provider of satellite television services in France.

It also indicates that all current TPS subscribers will eventually have to change to Canal Sat, which will mean that the satellite dishes will have to be realigned towards Astra, although there will be no need to replace the current receiver box. Operation dish realignment is due to begin in September 2007 in France and is expected to take up to 24 months.

I currently have a Humax decoder with a TPS card due for renewal in November, and am keen not to have any disruption to my viewing when the time comes for renewal.

I understand that I will have to buy a Canal Sat card to replace my old TPS subscription as according to Télé 7 jours, TPS subscriptions are no longer being marketed. I notice that you currently supply different receivers for TPS and Canal Sat; what exactly is the difference? The magazine article states that there will be no need to change receivers, so hopefully it will just be a case of remove old TPS card, inset new Canal Sat card, realign dish, and continue viewing?

We have now finally received the information pack.
So, here is what is happening officially:

Canal and TPS are merging the channels on ASTRA for all new subscribers. This means; all current subscribers will not be affected in anyway until their current subscription expires!
New TPS subscribers will have to chose from new CANALSAT packs, these channels include most current TPS channels and some new channels, but some current TPS channels will not be available for new subscriptions. The cards will change, current card holders will not have to change their cards or boxes (until the expiry date of current cards/contracts).
The satellite will stay the same for the meantime, BUT new subscribers will only be able to subscribe to CanalSat ASTRA.

In your particular case any change to do is at the end of your current contract, if by then CANAL dumps the Hotbird broadcast, you will then have to change the dish direction.

From what we understand at the moment, it seems you will have to change the direction, card and possibly the box.

Within the next few months CANAL will decide about what boxes will be in use next, if they are to keep current TPS viewers happy they will have to avoid the encryption change and accept the costs of running 2 broadcast encryptions on ASTRA so current TPS viewers can use current boxes.
Because currnetly TPS viewrs use Viaccess and CANAL viewrs use Seca2
and the money is on the Seca2 to survive!
Even if CANAL decides to move to Hotbird, they still have the dual encryption problem and current CANAL viewers will have to change boxes to cut the cost.
So CANAL decides in favour of... (they may already have: let TPS viewers take the hit; they change cards, redirect dishes and many will have to change boxes).

I am sure that there must be a simple way to find this (other than looking at Satellite magazines) but what are the frequencies on Astra 19E for the Canal Sat channels please?

OK thanks. I was hoping that there were specific known frequencies rather than either trawling through Lyngsat or King of Sat, or filling my box with channels I don't want. I'll check next month's "What Satellite".

Problem.

According to Lyngsat, NASN is on Astra 1H, 12663H, 22000, 5/6. I have the Canal Sat Passions Package but I am getting "No Signal" when I try to add it to my channels. Any help would be appreciated.
